PEERS®-Based Social Skills Group for Teens
Build meaningful friendships through structured, supported practice
This 14-week social skills group is designed for teens aged 14–17 who are motivated to build friendships and develop confidence in social situations. Based on the evidence-based PEERS® for Adolescents curriculum, participants will learn and practice essential social strategies through instruction, role-play, and real-world application.
Key Topics Include:
- Starting and maintaining conversations
- Joining and exiting peer groups
- Handling teasing, bullying, and conflict
- Reading social cues and increasing self-awareness
- Practicing social interactions in community settings
Parent and Caregiver Involvement:
Parents and caregivers are highly encouraged to attend the support portion held during the last 30 minutes of each group session. These meetings provide practical tools and guidance to help reinforce strategies at home.
Group Details:
- Session Time: Wednesdays @ 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM (1.5-hour)
- Duration: 14 weeks - January 21 to April 15, 2026
- Location: CLNH Offices, in person
- Group Size: Minimum of 3 participants required to run
- Support Ratio: 3:1
- Supervision: Group is supervised by a Behaviour Analyst registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO)
Participation Requirements:
- Ages 14–17
- Teen must be interested and willing to take part in group discussions and activities
- Participation must be voluntary
- Consistent weekly attendance
- At least one parent or caregiver must attend the parent support portion of each session
Employment Readiness Skills Group for Youth
Build the skills and confidence needed for future workplace success. This 14-week program is designed for youth aged 14–17 who are preparing for future employment opportunities. The group focuses on developing both practical job skills and the interpersonal abilities needed for workplace success through interactive lessons, group discussions, and hands-on activities.
Key Topics Include:
Job-Specific Skills:
- Writing and formatting a basic resume
- Identifying personal strengths and areas of interest
- Understanding job postings and how to apply
Communication & Collaboration Skills:
- Perspective-taking and understanding others’ viewpoints
- Social communication (e.g., greetings, small talk, tone, and context)
- Workplace problem-solving (e.g., asking for help, handling mistakes, teamwork)
- Executive functioning: time management, staying organized, and following through
Group Details:

STEM Explorers: Building Collaboration and Problem-Solving Through Hands-On Activities
Purpose of the Group
STEM Explorers is designed for youth aged 9–12 who enjoy working with peers on fun, hands-on projects. Through engaging group-based STEM activities, participants will practice important social and problem-solving skills in a supportive environment. Each session combines teamwork, creativity, and structured activities to help youth strengthen collaboration and turn-taking while learning how to solve challenges together.
Key Learning Objectives
- Foster collaboration and teamwork
- Strengthen turn-taking and sharing ideas
- Practice problem-solving strategies in real-time
Prerequisites:
- Ages 9–12
- Youth must be interested and willing to take part in small group discussions (3:1 ratio) and activities
- Participation must be voluntary

Game Masters: Enhancing Social and Group Problem Solving Skills Through Games
Purpose of the Group
Game Masters group is designed for youth aged 9–12 who want to strengthen their social and thinking skills while having fun. Through structured gameplay, strategy-based activities, and group challenges, participants will practice collaboration, turn-taking, and flexible problem-solving. Each session provides opportunities to build confidence, improve focus, and engage in positive peer interactions — all while playing games in a supportive environment.
Key Learning Objectives
- Improve collaboration and teamwork
- Strengthen turn-taking and patience
- Develop flexible thinking and problem-solving strategies
Prerequisites:
- Ages 9–12
- Youth must be interested and willing to take part in small group discussions (3:1 ratio) and activities
- Participation must be voluntary
Group Details
- Dates: Saturdays @ 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
- Duration: 12 weeks – January 24th to April 25th, 2026
- Location: CLNH Office
- Format: In-person
- Group Ratio: 3:1 participant-to-staff
- Supervision: Group is supervised by a Behaviour Analyst registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO)
Friday Night Hangout: Social Skills Generalization Group
Purpose of the Group
This group supports the continued maintenance and generalization of social skills in a fun, structured, and supported environment. Participants will practice social interaction in real-life contexts, explore extracurricular activities in the community, and build confidence with connecting with peers both inside and outside of group time.
Key Learning Objectives
• Practice and maintain social skills learned in past programs
• Use social skills in new places and situations
• Build confidence talking and interacting with peers
• Try new activities and explore community options
• Become more independent in community settings
• Form friendships and connect naturally with peers
Each student will choose a personal goal for the outings. Monthly check-ins and coaching will help both the student and family work toward that goal.
Target Population
• Age Range: 14–17
• Youth who previously attended a social skills group, received 1:1 social skills training, and/or looking for opportunities to find and maintain friendships
Prerequisite Skills
• No significant interfering behaviours in the past 6 months (e.g., aggression, property destruction)
- Interest in trying new activities or exploring extracurriculars
- Interest in making friends and meeting same-aged peers
Group Details:
- Session Time: One Friday a month @ 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- Duration: January to June 2026

- Friday March 27, 2026
- Friday April 17, 2026

- Location: Various community locations in Halton (calendar of events to be provided)

Notes:
- Dinner or snacks are not provided; however, families are welcome to send a small amount of money if their youth would like to purchase food in the community.
- Drop-off and pick-up will be the responsibility of the family. Locations may vary from week to week but will remain within the Halton area.

Back to Top ↑Core Clinical – Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA): Fee for Service (Ages 9-18)
Community Living North Halton provides evidence-based, core clinical ABA services that are overseen by a Registered Behaviour Analyst (RBA) and Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) who is registered to the OAP Approved Provider’s List. This service is an eligible expense through the Ontario Autism Program and families may use their OAP funding or private funds to purchase these services. Services and supports are individualized to meet individual and family needs and are offered in a variety of settings, and delivered through 1:1 or group-based learning.

Foundational Family Services supports capacity building for families to support their child’s learning and development. This service is offered free of charge to families who have a child who is registered to the Ontario Autism Program, with an OAP registration number. Services are offered through a consultative approach and are based on a family’s changing needs over time. Services are offered in a variety of ways, including both telehealth and virtual options. Family Resource and Clinic Days
Meet with a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) or a Behaviour Clinician for an hour to discuss current challenges you are facing as it relates to challenging behaviour you are experiencing or a skill/behaviour you would like to increase or develop. The CLNH team member will discuss concepts and strategies that you can try at home to address your current concern.

Brief Targeted Consultation
Work with CLNH’s clinical team to target a skill you are looking to increase or decrease across 3, 1 hours sessions + 1-month follow-up sessions. The Behaviour Clinician will gather information on your goal for consultation during your initial appointment. Your clinician will share strategies and problem solve with you and follow up on the outcome during your consultation sessions.
- Schedule: Based on clinician/family availability (mutually agreed upon time) 1 approximately 1-hour initial appointment and 3, 1-hour consultation sessions + 1, 1-hour follow-up session 1 month later.

Caregiver Workshops and Coaching Sessions
Behaviour Clinicians will present on a variety of topics to increase parent and caregivers’ knowledge in Applied Behaviour Analysis and related topics. Learn new concepts or refresh yourself on what you have learned in the past while having the opportunity to ask questions and interact with Behaviour Clinicians. Want to discuss more? After the workshop, sign up for an individualized coaching session with a Behaviour Clinician on the workshop topic.

Do you have a child with ASD and are looking for help in supporting your other children? Meet with a Behaviour Clinician to review a Parent’s Guide to Supporting Siblings of individuals with ASD. Take the opportunity to share your individualized goals or concerns regarding the ASD diagnosis or sibling support and the Behaviour Clinician will provide support using resources that address your needs.

Transition Supports

Micro-Learning with CLNH Autism Services: Using Reinforcement

Topic: Reinforcement - We'll cover the basics of positive and negative reinforcement, and how to apply them effectively in your daily routines. Self-Regulation

This workshop will discuss co-regulation and self-regulation skills, strategies to assist with or improve these skills, and how to implement these strategies in your child’s life. Having self-regulation skills allows us to notice when we are emotionally charged, consider consequences of our actions, and engage in activities that move us closer to our goals.

This workshop will provide an overview on how to implement the first and then contingencies to support our students. First and then contingencies are evidence based strategies, used as an ABA tools that helps with everyday transitions. It also helps increase motivation and cooperation along with transitions and completing everyday activities.
All About Behaviour
January 27th, 2026 at 4 pm
February 24th, 2026 at 10 am
This workshop will provide an overview of behaviour from an Applied Behaviour Analysis viewpoint. The workshop aims to support caregivers in understanding the function of a behaviour for their child. Concepts will be discussed for assessing and addressing challenging behaviours through strategies such as environmental management, skill development, and engaging in alternative behaviours.
Functions of Behaviour
January 22nd, 2026 at 10am
February 25th, 2026 4-5pm
This workshop will provide an overview of the functions of behaviours needed to fully understand why a person may engage in a specific behaviour. Through such workshop, we can be able to fully understand how to implement strategies needed to redirect challenging behavior along with implementing strategies that can help prevent challenging behaviors from arising throughout the day.
